On that day, the Nigerian doctor had gone out to give a memorial lecture dedicated to his late wife. Upon leaving, unnamed attackers gunned him down in the street, leaving him struggling for life. As he **ed for air, bystanders did nothing. In fact, some took photos and others robbed him.
Akunyili was a father. Shaped by his experiences in war, he decided that he wanted help people and thus became a man of medicine, even offering free treatments to many over the course of his career. Yet, in his dreadful last moments, nobody tried to help him.
